 WHAT IS A FRAGRANCE

you about fragrance. The reason that I chose this topic this morning is because it comes a lot. in the weekly trainings that I do. Weekly clean beauty education trainings that I'm giving. It's a topic or it's a word that people are really surprised about or want to learn more of. They're taken back a little bit. So I want to talk about the word fragrance. What is the word fragrance? Fragrance means it's a scent, it's a sweet smell, it's an aroma. There's natural fragrance that is found in flowers and oils and then there is synthetic fragrance that is used and perfumes and colognes. To talk about fragrance and perfumes and colognes you have to talk a little bit about the cosmetics industry the personal care industry. This industry is a sixty-two billion dollar a year industry in the US and it's governed by two pieces of paper. Two pieces of paper is what governs this sixty-two billion dollar a year industry in the US. Words like fragrance...the word fragrance is actually a term that the industry uses as they're kind of catch-all secret sauce. They don't have to disclose what ingredients put together the word fragrance or what ingredients fall under that term fragrance. It's their proprietary blend of you know whatever ingredients. Organizations can put three hundred chemicals and ingredients or more under that word fragrance and not disclose it anywhere. Not disclose it on the product or on the website or in any location. Actually with your products and any cosmetic skin care from men's to babies, to children, women companies are not required to list the ingredients on the product. In food we have to list our ingredients. Well in the personal care industry, in that world, companies are not required to list the ingredients that they use to create that product on the bottle. They're not required to list the ingredients on the website. They're not required to give out any information regarding the ingredients that are in their product. That is the state of the cosmetic industry today. Terms like natural mean nothing in the personal care industry or words like organic or any of those words are undefined. These two pieces of paper that are governing this industry have not defined what organic means or what natural means or any of those terms and words. Those are marketing terms in the personal care industry. There's no kind of body governing what organic means in the personal care industry. Alright I think I beat that dead horse. What do I do with my fragrance? I'm gonna talk to you about what I did. I had my fragrances that I love and I felt like they defined me. Scent is very strong, we have a strong personal connection with scent. When I learned about fragrance and what is in perfumes and colognes. And where are you spray, on your thyroid, which is right here. You sprayed on top of your skin, which is your largest organ and absorbs 60% of what you put on it. Then that, what's absorbed, goes directly into your bloodstream. If you spray something here, sixty percent of those chemicals- ingredients are going into your bloodstream. Period. Hopefully it's good stuff that you're putting on your body and not toxic ingredients. That will over time start to affect your immune system and wreak all kinds of havoc on your system. That's what I wanted to talk about perfume and fragrance. We're coming into the holiday season. Perfumes and colognes and all these wonderful products that looks sexy and amazing are gonna come on the market. I just want you to think about, when you're purchasing these items for yourself or for your loved ones, what are you actually giving them. Are you giving them something that's going to be healthy for them, elongate their life or are you giving them
