You're losing muscle

If you're losing muscle along with your fat, you are not alone. "In the average situation, it's bad to shed muscle rather than fat since muscle is the dominant player in body function and movement. A man who is trying to shed weight without cutting down on his caloric intake may actually gain weight in muscle before fat." This is due to hormonal changes that occur as we age. If your goal is fat loss, you should be more concerned with eating fewer calories than increasing them. This does not mean starving yourself; just eating less food and choosing lower calorie foods is a good way to get started. How about the duration of the physical activity, and an increase in it? The amount of time you spend in intense exercise also affects the amount of calories you burn during your workout. For those losing muscle, longer duration of the exercise may decrease or not increase the amount of calories you burn during the workout. Dr. Miranda-Comas explains, "That is because as you intensify the physical activity, you use up more glycogen in your muscles for energy. Glycogen is stored sugars in your muscles that can be easily replenished during your workout but it's best not to keep replenishing it because it may deteriorate the condition of your muscles."So you're losing muscle, fat and you're doing the workout right? Well, you're probably not losing muscle yet. As mentioned earlier, Dr. Miranda-Comas states, "It's important to note that weight training is only one aspect of a good fitness program, and you should not just think that it is the entire solution." It is important to get the proper nutrition that you need along with your training for the best results.
